Chapman State Park lists April programs

The campground is open and the season is on at Chapman State Park.

Programming for the month of April includes:

¯ All about Amphibians — 7 p.m. Friday, April 7, amphitheater: “Join the environmental educator on an amphibian adventure. Wear your boots and bring a flashlight.”

¯ DIY Fishing Lures — 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8, pavilion 2: “Join park staff and special guest Bill McClintock for a lesson on how to make your very own inline spinner and how to tie common fishing knots.” The event is suited to children and families. Materials will be provided and registration is required by calling Environmental Education Specialist Emily Hunt at (814) 723-0259.

¯ Eagle Watch — 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 15, amphitheater: “Participants will have the opportunity to learn about America’s fascinating national bird, hopefully see bald eagles, and view an eagle’s nest.” Attendees are encouraged to bring cameras, spotting scopes, and binoculars if they have them. Special guest Bill Vargo will assist with photography.

¯ Birding for Beginners — 9 to 10 a.m. Sunday, April 16, boat launch: “Learn tips and tricks to identifying birds, resources available for birding, and what equipment you will need.” There will be a walk of about one mile on relatively flat terrain.

¯ Earth Day Hike — 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, Adams Run Trail: “Celebrate Earth Day by joining the park educator of a guided hike through nature learning about the history of Earth Day and ways you can live more sustainably.”

¯ National Go Birding Day — 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 29, boat launch: “The last Saturday in April is National Go Birding Day. Come celebrate the day at Chapman State Park.”
