Audubon Natural Investigators to study invasive species
Submitted Photo As Natural Investigators, 8 to 12-year-olds and their adults will learn about invasive species at Audubon Community Nature Center on Saturday morning, April 22. These children are pictured with some Garlic Mustard that needs to be removed.
Invasive species are found all over the world, and the Audubon Community Nature Center is no exception.
Adults and their 8 to 12-year-old(s) are invited to be Natural Investigators and learn about invasive species from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22.
Invasive plants and animals take over new ecosystems and often cause considerable damage. Join an Audubon educator for a short indoor program to discover what it means for a species to be invasive and how to identify some local ones. The group will then go outside to find some of problem plants and learn about ways of removing them as well as use tools and actually do some invasive species removal.
Natural Investigators takes place rain or shine, so dress for the weather. The fee is $12 for adults, $9 for Nature Center members and children ages 8 to 12. Enrollment is limited to 12 children, 24 participants total. Reservations can be made by Thursday, April 20, by calling 716-569-2345 during business hours or by going to AudubonCNC.org and clicking through “Programs and Events.”
Natural Investigators is presented on the fourth Saturday of every month from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
