Winterfest events kick off at Chapman State Park today at 10 a.m.

Sure, there will be people jumping into cold water, dogs pulling heavy things, people riding mountain bikes with fat tires, ice fishing, and people on sleds and in kayaks on the sledding hill.

But, Winterfest has more than that.

The events kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chapman State Park.

There is an outdoor movie scheduled for 4 p.m. sponsored by the Warren County YMCA.

The Glade Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual ice safety demonstration at 1 p.m. — right before people jump into the frigid waters of the lake.

And, there are educational activities out of Pavilion 2 set for all day.

One of those events is Trivia Quest.

“The Trivia Quest was created in 2011 as a way to get people outside to try a new activity,” Warren County Conservation District Watershed Specialist and Trivia Quest Boss Jean Gomory said. “They learn some facts about nature that they never knew they never knew.”

The program takes questors along Penny Run Trail. They will begin with a question on the easel at the beginning of the trail. More questions — and answers to previous questions — will be located on candy cane-striped poles placed along the trail.

At the end of the trail, there will be a white-and-red striped box containing prizes and a survey.

“It’s a fun activity to do alone, with a friend, with your kids, with your dogs, or all of the above,” Gomory said.
