SLT Academy to perform ‘Mystery on Candy Cane Lane’

Photo submitted to Times Observer Students in the Struthers Library Theatre SLT Academy rehearse for their upcoming performance of Mystery on Candy Cane Lane — an original musical created by academy students.

There has been a disappearance on Candy Cane Lane.

The cast of the SLT Academy will investigate, and attempt to save Christmas, during their performance of ‘Mystery on Candy Cane Lane” — the academy’s third annual Holiday Special — at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, and 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at Struthers Library Theatre.

“The musical stars a cynical detective from the black-and-white city of Noir investigating a disappearance on vibrant Candy Cane Lane,” according to Marketing Assistant Baylie Hoffman. “Secrets must be uncovered to save the world from a candy-less Christmas.”

The musical was written and will be performed by students in the academy.

“Mystery on Candy Cane Lane is very much a product of the SLT academy students’ imagination,” Artistic Director Eric Morelli said. “From breaking the story, character creation, song selection, choreography, set design, and costume, our kids have been driving the creative force. It’s rewarding to watch their confidence grow as they build a musical from the ground up.”

“One of my favorite things about the Academy is they teach and explain stuff well, and it will be a memory I forever have.” fourth grader Elliot Eggleston said.

“I’m excited for everyone to see the show, because it’s such a fun Christmas show that we all helped write, and it will bring out the Christmas spirit for everybody,” tenth grader Alyssa Wismar said. Tickets are available at strutherslibrarytheatre.org and the theater box office.
