Audubon Little Explorers take time for Turkeys Saturday, November 12

AP Photo Taking “Time for Turkeys” will be the project for the 3 to 8-year-old Little Explorers and their adults who come to Audubon Community Nature Center on Saturday, Nov. 12. The photo of two wild tom turkeys strutting their stuff for the ladies was taken by Audubon volunteer Dave Cooney as he drove on rural roads in Chautauqua County.

While most turkey activity happens in the spring, fall is when people really take notice of them.

Audubon Community Nature Center (ACNC) Little Explorers, 3 to 8-year olds and their favorite adults, will take “Time for Turkeys” on Saturday, Nov. 12, 10 to 11:30 a.m.

From their heads to their feet, turkeys are designed to survive in the fields and forests of the region.

Come to Audubon to learn more about these birds and, along the way, look closely at their feathers and feet, figure out what a snood is and learn how they survive the fall and winter months. After a short indoor lesson, the group will head outside to think and find food like a turkey.

A snack is provided after the hike, and a craft is offered if there is time. The program takes place rain, snow or shine, so dress for the weather. The fee is $8 for adults, $6 for children ages 3 to 8 and Nature Center members.

Enrollment is limited to 15 children, 30 participants total.

Make reservations by Thursday, Nov. 10, by calling 716-569-2345 during business hours or by going to AudubonCNC.org and clicking through “Programs and Events.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
