Event to feature storytelling, music

A free family event highlighting books and music is set for Saturday, Aug. 6, at 4:30 p.m. at Art Kelsey Park on Liberty Street. Sandra Boynton’s children’s book Jungle Night will be read by storyteller Dave Gaskin with music played by Tom Gaskin on cello, Deena Winters on keyboard and Dave on guitar. They will also perform Eric Satie’s Gymnopedie No. 1. The group will present Eric Litwin’s Pete the Cat Book: I Wear my White Shoes. Vocalist Christine Kuntz will set the 1940’s Paris scene for the Pulitzer prize winning book All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. Christine will sing La Vie En Rose by Edith Pilaf. Other important music in this book will be performed by pianist Deena Winters. Claude Debussy’s Clair de Lune and film composer William Goldstein’s delicate music for the main character Marie-Laure. Tomaso Albioni’s dramatic Adagio in G Minor will be performed with a retelling of the thrilling children’s detective novel Nate the Great and the Sticky Case by Marjorie Sharmat. This afternoon of music, books and cake is provided by Kids Town Books and Deena Winters Piano Studio. Please bring a lawn chair to sit in and have fun.
