CENTER TO HOST COVID-19 BOOSTER CLINIC

A COVID-19 booster clinic will be held at the Allegheny Community Center on June 9. Anyone 50 or older is eligible. Those attending are asked to bring their insurance information as well as their vaccination card. Registration is required at (814) 723-3763.

FREE PAINTING CLASS

David Olson, a watercolor artist, will be offering free watercolor painting experiences at the YMCA Art Studio 1 at the Allegheny Community Center. Beginning supplies will be offered and a photo from which to work. Guided instructions will be given that aid each painter in finding their own voice in painting. Please register with the Allegheny Community Center. Space is limited to 10 participants.

FALLS PREVENTION

Each year, one out of every four seniors fall and injure themselves in their home. The ACC’s annual falls prevention class will be offered on June 14 and 15 at 1 p.m. The two day event will help seniors learn how to stay safe in their home while also providing specific balance exercises.

PARTNERSHIP WITH THE YMCA

The YMCA and the ACC have partnered to provide a series of art, cooking and multi-generational programs in the community. Running through the summer, offerings for kids include an art experience on Wednesdays starting June 14th, culinary programs at the ACC as well as a series of “Make and Take” projects. All kids classes are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Allegheny Community Center. On the adult side, an acrylic painting class will be offered via a five-week session and a stained glass session over two weeks as well as a two-week class for grandparents and their grandchildren. Call the ACC or YMCA for more information or to sign up for these various programs.

SILVER GAMES

The Silver Games of Warren and Forest Counties will be held on Friday, June 3 starting at the Warren YMCA at 8 a.m. Those interested are asked to call the ACC or the YMCA. Participants will participate in three individual events and two team events. The event is open to individuals age 55 and older and sponsors include Experience Inc., the Allegheny Community Center, the YMCA and the Care Council. Register by June 1.

COOKING CLASS

On the first and third Wednesday of every month the Allegheny Community Center will hold a Cooking and Nutrition class. Come join us as we make many different foods and baked goods.

PAINTING CLASS

Artist Gail Bidwell will be starting painting classes at the ACC in the dining room on Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The cost is $10.00 per class with supplies included unless a special project is requested. Call the ACC to sign up.

RECEPTIONIST NEEDED

The Allegheny Community Center is in need of a receptionist for shifts from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays and 12-3 p.m. on Thursdays. Anyone interested is asked to stop in or call (814) 723-4180.

SUPPORT FOR

SENIORS

The Allegheny Community Center has applications on-site for various programs such as LIHEAP (for heating), Water and Waste to help with water and sewer bills as well as a rental assistance application. Anyone with questions asked to call the Community Assistance Office at (814) 723-6330. Rental assistance questions can be directed to the Warren-Forest EOC at (814) 726-2400, ext. 107. The EOC also has an application of second Harvest food distribution at the Lutheran Church.

Here’s a look at the meal calendar for April which is, unfortunately, subject to change due to supply chain issues. Remember that you must order meals two weeks in advance. Please call your local center to order or – if needed – cancel meals.

June 22: Teriyaki chicken, rice pilaf, green beans, bread and fresh fruit.

June 23: Salisbury steak with baked potato, broccoli, wheat bread and gelatin.

June 24: Egg omelet with cheese, sausage, breakfast potatoes, english muffin and fresh fruit.

June 27: Roast beef and cheddar sandwich with corn chowder, roll and fruit.

June 28: Baked cabbage roll with whipped potatoes, carrots, role and cookie.

June 29: Hot dog with sauerkraut, cheesy potatoes, roll and oranges.

June 30: Beef stroganoff with noodles, peas, roll and fruit.

July 1: Fiesta chicken burrito bowl with mandarin oranges.

July 5: Egg salad sandwich with tomato soup, bread and cinnamon applesauce.

July 6: Turkey and gravy with mashed potatoes, corn, bread and cookie.

July 7: Crispy chef salad with vegetable barley soup, roll and warm peach crumble.

July 8: Pineapple glazed ham balls with sweet potatoes, broccoli, bread and sliced pears.

July 11: Meatball hoagie with noodles, green beans, roll and fruit.

July 12: Pork loin with vegetable rice pilaf, cauliflower, apples and cookie.

July 13: Stuffed pepper with garlic whipped potatoes, carrots, bread, fruit.

July 14: Roast beef with scalloped potatoes, peas and onions, bread and mandarin oranges.

July 15: Pizza casserole with salad, green beans, bread and applesauce.

July 18: Tuna salad sandwich with bean soup, bread and fruit.

July 19: Sweet and sour chicken with white rice, broccoli and cauliflower, bread and fruit.

July 20: Glazed ham with mashed sweet potatoes, peas and carrots, roll and pudding.

July 21: Turkey sandwich with whipped potatoes, corn, bread and cookie.

July 22: Meatloaf with gravy, baked potato, beets, bread and fruit.

July 25: Vegetable lasagna, shredded mozzarella, salad, breadstick and fruit.

July 26: BBQ pork ribette, sweet potato bites, green beans, bread and pineapple delight.

July 27: Cheeseburger with creamy potato soup, roll and fruit.

July 28: Baked lemon pepper white fish, macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, bread and fruit.

July 29: Creamy chicken and biscuits with mixed vegetables, fruit and cookie.
