Support group to open thrift store

A resource for families who have children with disabilities is taking a step forward.

HEROES, organized by Mandie Englert, has been holding monthly meetings and various events, such as sensory-friendly Easter egg hunts. In an effort to raise funds for the group, a thrift store in downtown Warren is in the works.

“(W)e are seeking donations in order to get the store up and running within the next few weeks,” Englert said. “Anything you plan on donating, we will gladly take with the exceptions of TVs, mattresses, fabric furniture and bedding.”

Donations can be brought to Parker’s Place at 230 Pennsylvania Ave. W. until the thrift store is up and running. Englert said the store will be located at 228 Pennsylvania Ave. W.

“Our goal is to keep prices under $5 and keeping higher priced items at true thrift store prices) so everyone in the community can support us,” she said. “The store will be ran strictly by volunteers of all abilities.”

Anyone looking to get involved is “welcomed and encouraged.”

“I couldn’t do it without all of the love and support from the community,” Englert added, “especially Jessica Patz who encouraged me to take the leap.”
