Dozens help in Allegheny Reservoir Cleanup

The Allegheny Reservoir was overdue for some spring cleaning.

The 18th annual Allegheny Reservoir Cleanup was held Saturday, with 51 volunteers doing their parts.

“After a couple of years of ‘small scale’ cleanups, we finally got a (mostly) beautiful day and good sized group to work on the Allegheny Reservoir,” Cleanup Committee Member David Snyder said. “It was one of those spring days that reminds us why we live, work and play in this beautiful part of the country.”

Volunteers met at Onoville Marina and shipped out from there to wherever the need was greatest.

At the end of the day, the volunteers had collected more than 18 cubic yards of trash and hauled 84 tires out of the reservoir and off of its banks.

“Since its inception, 1,201 volunteers have donated approximately 9,608 hours collecting 381 cubic yards of garbage and 15,342 tires from the Allegheny Reservoir,” Snyder said.
