Philomel kicks off season

The Philomel Club of Warren opened its 130th season on Oct. 13. After a truncated 129th season due to COVID-19, members and guests were thrilled to return to our normal programming. The Philomel Club traditionally opens its season with a guest performance. This year, the club was delighted to hear music performed by Katie Ferrie and Joanna Nordlund. This amazing duo entertained us with a variety of selections for violin, viola, and piano. With selections by Joseph Pleyel, J.S. Bach, Jean Sebelius, Rebecca Clarke, and George Telemann, Ms. Ferrie and Ms. Nordlund demonstrated tremendous technique and keen interpretation. Katie Ferrie earned a Bachelor’s from SUNY Fredonia and a Masters in Viola Performance from Peabody Conservatory at John Hopkins University. In addition to her incredible musical talent, she is a regionally-known luthier and repairs bows for stringed instruments. She also performs with several regional musical groups. Joanna Nordlund earned a Bachelor’s in Church Music from Bob Jones University and entertained the Club with performances on the violin and piano. She operates a private music studio in Youngsville and performs with several regional musical groups. For those who were unable to attend this wonderful performance, Katie and Joanna will be performing on Friday, November 5, 2021, at 7:00 pm at the First Lutheran Church of Warren. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. If you are interested in hearing or performing beautiful classical music, consider joining The Philomel Club. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 1:30 p.m. at the Woman’s Club of Warren. Please attend if you are interested in joining the Philomel Club. For further information, you may contact the Club President, Christine Kuntz, at (814) 706-1288.
