VA hosting free flu clinics

Veterans who qualify for VA health care can get free, drive-through flu shots at the CBOC on North Warren.

There will be two free clinics at the Community Based Outpatient Clinic at the Farm Colony next month — from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 16.

“Free flu shots will be available to veterans who are eligible for VA health care and have a valid VA ID card,” according to a release from Erie VA Medical Center Acting Public Affairs Officer Chanel Cook. “This year, flu shots will be drive-through only to ensure the safety of our veterans and employees.”

Masks are required at the VA “even in your vehicle while receiving the flu shot,” Cook said.

“A flu shot is just one of the many benefits offered by the Erie VAMC,” she said. “Veterans who have never enrolled in VA health care may bring their DD-214 discharge papers to see if they are eligible.”

“Veterans must be eligible for VA health care to receive a free flu shot,” Cook said. “Tricare for Life patients are not eligible.”

Once the clinics are finished, flu shots will be available by appointment by calling (814) 868-8661 ext. 2. Information about the flu may be found by calling the Erie VA Flu Hotline at (814) 860-2730 or by visiting www.va.gov/erie-health-care/events/.
