Youngsville’s upcoming events include free movies, Sports Booster Jubilee

The Youngsville YMCA will host a free movie Wednesday, July 28, at 9 p.m. at the Island Park area of the YMCA.

The June 30 movie was postponed due to inclement weather and will be rescheduled.

Those attending free movies at the YMCA do not need to be a YMCA member to participate, and should bring their own blanket and chair. The Youngsville Y-branch will have $1 bags of popcorn available

POUND FITNESS CLASS

Through Aug. 19, the Youngsville YMCA, 80 Ford St.., is offering a “Pound Fitness” class, Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 6 to 6:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per person per class and the instructor is Sara Robinson. Call 814-802-1618 for details and to reserve a spot.

BOROUGH NEWS

Youngsville borough offices will be closed Monday, and borough services will not be offered Monday either. Regular business hours will resume on Tuesday. Garbage regularly collected on Monday, July 5, will now be picked up on Tuesday and Tuesday, July 6, garbage pickup is now scheduled for Wednesday.

CHAPMAN STATE PARK FREE

PROGRAMMING

A family fishing program will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Seppt. 2. The free program is open to all ages 5 and older and will be conducted by Chad Foster of the state Fish and Boat Commission.

The fishing license requirement is waived during the duration of the program time for participants age 16 and older. Those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Participants will be taught the basics of fishing including casting, knots, and bait selection. Fishing equipment, bait, and instruction will be provided during the program but those attending may bring their own fishing rod if preferred.

SPORTS BOOSTER JUBILEE

The Youngsville Eagles Sports Boosters are having a Summer Jubilee on Friday, July 23, and Saturday, July 24, at the Youngsville Fire Hall. The boosters are also looking for local businesses and organizations to participate in the Jubilee parade on Saturday, July 24, at 4 p.m. Anyone interested in having a float or other entry in the parade can email YoungsvilleEagles@gmail.com or phone/text 814-730-5581.

Friday 23 events include:

¯ A fish fry from 5 p.m. until sold out,

¯ Cornhole Tournament that costs $20 per team with registration from 5 to 6 pm, with the tournament starting at 6 p.m.

¯ Kids’ Carnival from 5 to 9 p.m. including a dunking booth, carnival games, face painting, cotton candy, food vendor, and Bubble Gum Machine with performances at 6 and 7:30 p.m.,

¯ Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department Truck Room from 5 to 9 p.m. with games of chance, dollar drafts with mug purchase (ID required), basket giveaway and pull tabs. Cash giveaway tickets are available at the Youngsville Borough Office. Tickets are $10 each. Four $500 winners will be drawn on July 24 at the Summer Jubilee.

Saturday, July 24, events include:

¯ Parade starts at 4 p.m. at the corner of Davis and East Main streets and proceed west down East Main Street to I.O.O.F. street,

¯ Chicken barbecue from 5 p.m. until sold out,

¯ Kids Carnival from 5 to 8 p.m. with local K9 cops attending

¯ Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department Truck Room from 5 to 9 p.m. with games of chance, dollar drafts with mug purchase (ID required), basket giveaway pull tabs and the band Necessary Experience playing from 6 to 10 p.m.

COUNTY FAIR

ENTRY HELP

The 2021 Warren Co Fair Premium book is available for viewing online at warrencountyfair.net and area residents can also e-register their fair entries for this year too.

Those who are not computer savvy or would prefer to mail in a hard copy entry form can visit the Youngsville Public Library for help. The library has free hard copies of the following Warren County Fair entry forms available at the circulation desk. Animal entry forms for both dairy and poultry are due by July 15 and general entry forms for all other non-animal entries are due by July 30. A quick link that takes entrants directly to the Warren County Fair’s 2021 online Premium Book and online entry page can also be found on the Youngsville Library’s homepage at YoungsvillePublicLibrary.org.

PUBLIC LIBRARY NEWS

The Youngsville Public Library’s Summer “Fiction & Fitness with Friends” Program begins July 13.

No registration is required to attend.

Free program dates are Tuesdays: July 13, 20, 27 and Aug. 3 from 10 to 11a.m. at the Youngsville YMCA branch’s porch area facing Island Park. Join Kristy Wallace, library director, for stories, grab-and-go activities, songs and more for the first 45 minutes of each day. Stories and activities are geared towards ages 4-8, but all ages welcome.

Parents and caregivers are asked to accompany children. Then immediately following the “Fiction” portion of the program, children will be encouraged to stay for the “Fitness” portion of the program. Children will be able to play with the various family-friendly outdoor games and toys that the Youngsville Y has to offer, such as: cornhole, hula hoops, a giant Jenga game, basketballs and other equipment.

In addition, a free one-day guest pass will be provided to the non-Y-member parents/caregivers in attendance courtesy of the Youngsville YMCA branch. The one-day guest pass can be used for non-members to explore the Youngsville YMCA facilities and/or utilize the Y equipment.

Social distancing rules are still in effect for libraries, which is why the program is taking place outside of the Youngsville Public Library building. More summer programming will be announced soon.
