Businesses join with library for Story Walk

It’s a caps-for-sale tour and the cost isn’t even 50 cents.

Downtown Warren businesses are joining with Warren Public Library and the Slobodkina Foundation to provide a Story Walk based on the Esphyr Slobodkina classic Caps for Sale.

“Warren Public Library invites you to read your way through downtown Warren anytime between Monday, July 19, and Saturday, July 24,” Children’s Librarian Susan Slater said. “With gracious permission from the Slobodkina Foundation, the Warren Public Library is excited to provide the experience of a story walk in downtown Warren. Enjoy the beloved story Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina while walking along Second Avenue and Liberty Street in downtown Warren. Businesses… will post pages from this book in their windows. The pages are framed in red so they can be easily recognized.”

“Participants can pick up a Caps for Sale Story Walk Packet with directions and activity sheets outside of the Warren Library Children’s Department or download the packet from the Children’s Program page, which can be found under Events at warrenlibrary.org,” Slater said. “Starting at Gaughn’s Drug Store, participants will read the story in progression as they walk along Second Avenue and then up and down both sides of Liberty Street. Participating businesses are noted in the packet.”

“The Story Walk Packets can be completed between July 19 and 24,” she said. “The submission Form page is due into the Warren Library by July 30. Those who turn in their Submission Form will have their names entered into a drawing.”

From those, 12 names will be drawn and the winners will receive gift bags containing a T-shirt, a copy of one of the Caps for Sale stories, a stuffed monkey, even a cap.

Anyone with questions may contact Slater at (814) 723-4650.
