Scholastic art contest winners announced

The Warren County Conservation District is highlighting the connection between forests and communities.

The conservation district held its inaugural scholastic art contest this year, with judging in April. The theme was Healthy Forests, Healthy Communities.

A total of 79 students entered the contest, open to students in grades kindergarten through 12.

Prizes were awarded to the top three entries in four categories — K through 2, 3 through 5, 6 through 8, and 9 through 12 — and to the People’s Choice Award winner in each category. Prizes — $25 for first place, $20 for second place, and $15 for third place — and ribbons were provided by the Warren County Visitors Bureau.

The winners were:

¯ K through 2 — Cara Johnson (first); Alaina Ongley (second); and Zachary Ayers (third and People’s Choice);

¯ 3 through 5 — Hope Martin (first and People’s Choice); Chase Perrin (second); and Aiden Jones (third);

¯ 6 through 8 — Gus Heenan (first); David Manning (second); Ashleigh Johnson (third); and Lauren Zahner (People’s Choice); and

¯ 9 through 12 — Katelin Slocum (first); Elizabeth Phelps (second); Kassedy Kibbey (third); and Alicia Sabella (People’s Choice).

The conservation district is accepting entries into its annual photo contest. Warren County subject matter in the categories of tractors, birds, flowers, and people in nature, will be accepted through Sept. 17.
