Little Explorers to learn about pond life

On Saturday morning, June 12, Audubon Community Nature Center’s Little Explorers and their adults will learn about Pond Life. After an indoor lesson, they will head outside to look for some real examples.

Ponds are teeming with life from top to bottom.

Adults and the 3-8 year old child(ren) in their life can learn about pond life at Audubon Community Nature Center’s Little Explorers, Saturday, June 12, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

For many different plants and animals, ponds can either be the perfect home or an important stop in their life cycle. Join Audubon to learn about the plants and turtles on the shore, the fish and tadpoles swimming through the water, the insects in the mud below and many more.

After a short lesson exploring the living things that use ponds, the group will head outside to explore some ponds at Audubon, look for evidence of larger animals, learn how to use a net to pond dip, and look closely at macroinvertebrates and maybe even a tadpole.

A craft is offered if there is time.

The program takes place rain or shine, so those attending should be sure to dress for the weather and have a face covering available for when they cannot maintain physical distance.

The fee for the program is $8 for adults, $6 for children ages 3 to 8 and Nature Center members.

Enrollment is limited to 10 children, 20 participants total.

Make reservations by Thursday, June 10, by calling 569-2345 during business hours or by going to AudubonCNC.org and clicking on “Upcoming Programs.”

Sponsored by Univera Healthcare, Little Explorers is presented on the second Saturday of every month from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
