County Republican Committee presents scholarships

At its annual spring dinner at the Conewango Club in May, the Warren County Republican Committee presented $1,000 Emory J. Mahan Memorial Scholarships to Zane Alexander and Storm Sivak.

“I’ve known both of these young men since they were in elementary school and when our grading committee selected their responses as the winners, I was excited to let them know they had won,” said Joe McClellan, Republican secretary.

Alexander is an Eisenhower High School senior who plans to attend Penn State and Sivak is a Warren Area High School senior who is planning to attend George Washington University in the fall. Scholarship applicants were asked to submit an essay about the modern danger of cancel culture as well as recent examples of bipartisanship in our country.

“Having our headquarters building on Conewango and giving out scholarships like this are ways the Republican Party likes to show that we are active in the community,” said David White, one of the prominent drivers of the Mahan Scholarship. “We aren’t just about elections, we want to have a presence and positive influence on Warren County. This year’s two scholarships brings the total amount of scholarships we have been able to give out to $29,000 since 2001, and we’re very proud of that.”
