Sekerak announces candidacy for county register and recorder

Lauri L. Sekerak announced she is running for Warren County register and recorder, clerk of courts in the upcoming primary election May 18.

The office is one of the busiest departments in county government. Marriage licenses, estates and real estate transactions are among some of the responsibilities the elected official must oversee.

Sekerak noted that she has 38 years of experience, which “shows her commitment to the job.” Her ideas include preserving the records for future generations, making the office more transparent to the public and striving to make the records and research more user friendly. She will listen and work for the taxpayers of Warren County.

Sekerak holds a dual bachelor’s degree from New England College, majoring in environmental studies and political science, graduating in 1983. Upon graduation from college, she worked for a local legal firm learning how to become a title abstractor. During this time, she also worked with her father, Fran Remington, a long-time Warren banker, and the late Barbara Remington, at the Barley Home.

Sekerak started Rem Abstract Services in 1985, working with attorneys, oil and gas companies and genealogists conducting research in the recorder of deeds office. It was there that she met her future husband, Ed Sekerak, a state certified general real estate appraiser. The two have been married over 30 years and have a son Eddie, 25.

They reside on their small farmstead in Columbus Township. In addition to Rem Abstract Services, Sekerak is currently the office manager of Sekerak Realty and she also held a PA Real Estate License.

In 2012, Lauri was appointed by the Warren County commissioners to serve on the Warren County Planning & Zoning Board. She was an active participant serving for two, four-year terms and was the second-vice chair during her second term. She is the past district president of the Exchange Club. She has served as a board member of the Warren County Historical Society, Warren Cancer Society, Warren Hospital Auxiliary and volunteers at the Warren County Fair for the 4-H and dairy shows.

“I am seeking the office of Register and Recorder of Warren County, relying on my 38 years of experience of owning my own business, knowledge of the fundamentals and the responsibilities that the position requires, a passion for assisting the public and Attorneys with dignity and respect,” Sekerak said. “This upcoming election is a chance for me to continue to serve the taxpayers of Warren County that I have had the privilege of working with over the years. Having worked with the resources available within the Warren County Register & Recorder’s office, I am extremely knowledgeable of the office. In addition, being familiar with the laws and recording statutes of the State of Pennsylvania, I believe I have the professional knowledge to step into the position on day one. Since the early 1980’s, I have researched literally thousands of deeds, wills, leases, maps and other documents that have been recorded over the past hundreds of years. In addition, my work has taken me to other courthouses in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Tennessee and New York. I have had the benefit of seeing other best practices, and I look forward to bringing a renewed spirit of customer service to Warren County.”
