League of Women Voters to host virtual program

The League of Women Voters of Warren County will host a virtual program on redistricting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

League members Phyllis Wright and Susan Stout will talk about Pennsylvania House Hill 22 and Senate Bill 222 regarding the Legislative and Congressional Redistricting Act (LACRA). “LACRA redefines the process our legislators will use to draw new district lines after they receive the 2020 census data for the state,” according to a League of Women Voters release. “The 2020 census data will bring changes to voting districts to reflect population shifts. While ensuring that legislators will still be the architects of the districts, LACRA, mandates public input, a more transparent process, and objective and measurable criteria for map fairness.”

Those interested in attending are asked to register at www.lwvwc.org. Those who register will receive a Zoom link.

“This virtual program is part of the League of Women Voters of Warren County’s annual March ‘Sunshine Week’ educational opportunities presented on transparency in government, informed citizens, and voting rights,” according to the release. “The League of Women Voters and its partner organization Fair Districts PA have a long history of working to correct gerrymandering in Pennsylvania. In addition to this informational meeting, you can learn more about LACRA at www.fairdistrictspa.com.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
