ATV, off-road motorcycle permits are available

Allegheny National Forest all-terrain vehicle and off-highway motorcycle permits are available.

Those interested in permits, or information about them, are advised to visit www.fs.usda.gov/main/allegheny/passes-permits/recreation.

ATV/OHM permits are valid through the end of the calendar year.

The ANF announced on Monday that trails are currently closed to ATV use, but that some may be opened soon.

“We are hopeful that incoming weather conditions may allow us to open some trails for winter riding,” Marienville District Ranger Rob Fallon said.

He said winter use of the ATV/OHM trail system requires sustained cold temperatures that freeze the trail surface and push frost into the ground. “Until these conditions are met, trails will remain closed to ATV/OHM use.”

“The forest will send out a news release and post information on the public website and Facebook when ATV/OHM trail access changes,” according to a release from Spokesperson Debra-Ann Brabazon. “Please check access conditions prior to use.”
