YMCA Gymnastics team is collecting gently-used shoes

If the shoe fits… and you’re not going to use it, donate it.

Warren YMCA Gymnastics is empowering entrepreneurs in Third World countries.

The team is collecting gently used shoes that will be sold and the proceeds will benefit struggling families.

“All donated shoes will be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise (small business) partners,” according to a release from the team. “Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs in helping them create, maintain and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited.”

“Proceeds from the sales of the shoes collected in shoe drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe and house struggling families,” the release said. “By donating gently worn, used and new shoes to the gymnastics team, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives around the world.

The team is running the drive through Jan. 15.

“Please go through your closets and see if you have gently used shoes that you no longer wear,” according to the release. “Someone from the gymnastics program would be glad to pick they up at your home.

Please call 814-723-5169 to request a porch pick-up. Or you can leave them at the following locations: the Warren YMCA, the Youngsville YMCA, Allegheny Outfitters, the Moose Club and the Eagles Club.”

There will also be a ‘drive-thru shoe drop-off’ from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 9, in the YMCA parking lot.
