Woman charged with assault in biting incident

A Warren woman has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly biting police at Warren General Hospital.

Michelle L. Minnis, 43, of Warren, is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Minnis was being admitted to Warren General Hospital on May 28. Hospital staff told police Minnis had been restrained multiple times, according to the affidavit.

“The defendant ran out of (the) room,” police said. “This resulted in … taking her to the ground forcefully.”

As hospital staff and police placed Minnis into bed restraints, “she had bitten an officer’s right hand/wrist area two times” breaking the skin, according to police.

Minnis was arraigned Thursday before District Justice Raymond Zydonik.

She was released on $25,000 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 23.
