Produce Express distribution

Second Harvest is holding a Produce Express distribution outside of the Veteran’s Foreign Wars Facility in Clarendon on this coming Saturday, May 16, at 9 a.m. Second Harvest has held Produce Express events here before and they have had a low attendance, so its goal is to increase the number of people attending this distribution.

The Produce Express program delivers a truckload of food for families in need and provides income-eligible families with 25-to-50 pounds of nutritious food, free of charge. By making fresh, healthy produce available to those who normally would not have access to it, Second Harvest encourages the community to eat healthier and make better nutritional choices. When available, Produce Express distributions also include other grocery items and non-food essentials.

Extra safety measures are being taken by Second Harvest to ensure the health and protection of those involved. This includes:

Food will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis and in a no-touch, drive thru format;

Staff and volunteers will only load food items into the trunk of a vehicle during the distribution, and not inside the vehicle. Clients are asked to keep the trunks of their vehicles as empty and clean as possible;

Those receiving food need to be in a vehicle as the driver or a passenger;

Second Harvest encourages as few people inside the client’s vehicle as possible;

It is encouraged that everyone inside the vehicle wears a mask or face covering during the duration of the distribution.

New and current clients do not need to contact Second Harvest to sign up or pre-register for the Produce Express in Clarendon. Should there be any questions about the distribution, contact Bailey Giesbrecht, Mobile Pantry Coordinator, at (814) 459-3663, ext. 109, or bgiesbrecht@nwpafoodbank.org.
