Briefs…

Senior centers closed

Experience, Inc., the Warren/Forest Area Agency on Aging, will be closing all its senior centers for the next two weeks through March 27. This includes the Allegheny Community Center (ACC), Tidioute Senior Center, Marienville Senior Center, and the Endeavor Senior Center.

The Sheffield Hospitality House is an independently run center and you should check with them to know whether or not that center will be open.

If any center member previously ordered a senior center meal for the week of March 16 to 20, that meal will be prepared and available for takeout only on the date(s) for which you ordered a meal from the senior center. Call your local senior center with any questions, or you can reach the Area Agency on Aging at (814) 723-3763, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

County libraries closed

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced that all K-12 Pennsylvania schools will be closed for 10 business days effective Monday, March 16. The Wolf Administration will continue to monitor COVID-19 in the commonwealth, and at the end of 10 days will reevaluate and decide whether continued closure is needed.

“Consistent with the Governor’s efforts to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, all public libraries across Pennsylvania should follow this guidance.

Since many public libraries are open on weekends and to achieve the maximum in public safety, the Office of Commonwealth Libraries instructs libraries to close for routine, public library services beginning on Saturday, March 14, and remain closed through Sunday, March 29, a period in alignment with school closures.”

“Sadly, all events at the library are canceled through the end of March,” said WPL director Kelli Knapp. “There will be no fines for overdue materials during this time. Please feel free to continue to return all items to our outside book drop along our Market Street entrance.

“We wish you all health and safety and we look forward to seeing you when we reopen. Until then, online resources and Overdrive are still available,” she said.

For information about when WPL will reopen, check its Facebook page (@warrenpalibrary) or call the library at (814) 723-4650 for a recorded message.

All late fees will be suspended and due dates extended at Youngsville Public Library as well, director Kristy Wallace said. “But our drop box will still be open for those patrons who still wish to return items,” she said. “And the drawing date for the winners of our ‘Love Your Library Raffle Extravaganza’ will be postponed until after we reopen.”

Chili festival postponed

The annual Cherry Grove Chili Festival is another casualty of the coronavirus pandemic — although the event is only being postponed, not canceled. “We are postponing the 27th annual Cherry Grove Chili Festival from Sunday, March 15, to Sunday, April 19,” according to a release. “This was not an easy decision for us to make, but the Cherry Grove Volunteer Fire Department’s number one priority is public safety.”

“With that in mind, we have decided to follow the ruling from the Pennsylvania Governor’s office and postpone this community event,” according to the release.

The event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 19.
