The ‘snow’ must go on: Winterfest Saturday and Sunday at Chapman

Photo submitted to Times Observer Jean Gomory from the Warren County Conservation District set up the annual Trivia Quest for Winterfest at Chapman State Park. Participants will hike the beautiful Penny Run Trail where they will encounter striped tubes with trivia questions and answers along the way.

Warren County Winterfest continues Saturday and Sunday at Chapman State Park — with a lot of snow, a little snow, or no snow.

Expect snow.

Warren County Winterfest has been updating its Facebook page with the weather.

“We don’t say the word ‘cancel,’ a Winterfest post on Thursday responded to a question in regards to the sled dog races if there isn’t enough snow. “There’s currently not enough snow for racing. If we get deluged on Saturday, that could change…”

If there’s not enough snow, “Probably everything except actual sled dog racing and snow man contest” will be held. “Due to weather conditions, the Champions on Ice will not be appearing. Pond is not ready for skating. No skating.”

“Carmen Jarvis Rose will present her dogs at… Chapman Pavilion #4 Saturday morning,” according to the Facebook page.

“Geocaching, the 4-Seasons Trivia Quest, and Ice Fishing Derby are on.

“Greg Burkett and Allegheny Outdoor Club will be holding their winter hike (at 1:30 p.m. both days) in place of cross-country skiing at the warming hut.

“Food and vendors will be stationed in Pavilion #3, out behind Pavilion #2 and next to Parking Lot #2.

“Canine Weight Pull is on for Saturday (1 p.m.) and Sunday (10 a.m.). Pull located next to lake near Restroom #1 and Pavilion #1.

“Fishing Derby is on for Saturday. Check it out at Pavilion #1 near the Spillway.” Registration is from 9 to 10 a.m., and the derby from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Polar Plunge is on for Saturday at 2 p.m. (at the beach).” Plungers register prior to the event, each donating to benefit The Salvation Army’s Warren citadel.

The Geocachers “Geomeet” in Pavilion #2 Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with Geocaching.
