Holy Redeemer fills baskets with love for local families
Volunteers of all ages came with carts, dollies and holiday spirit Friday evening to brighten the holiday season for 100 local families in need.
Christmas food baskets were filled with a wide variety of food items to be delivered to families on Saturday. Volunteers lined up with carts and dollies at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church to await their assignment as they filled the baskets, which were actually pretty big boxes.
Prior to heading downstairs to fulfill their mission, specific instructions were given in order to keep the process efficient. Each person or group first got an assignment — a specific food item assigned to them. If the assigned food was canned peaches, then canned peaches had to be put in each box before another food could be assigned.
Many of the volunteers came prepared with wheeled carts to fill as they made their way through the line. They filled and packed, careful to put heavy items in first to prevent any squashed spaghetti noodles, until all the boxes were filled.
More volunteers met back at the church Saturday morning to pack the boxes into their vehicles and deliver them to the families.
