Christmas Party

Photos submitted to Times Observer On Saturday, Dec. 14, Wreaths Across America held its national wreath placing ceremony at over 1,600 cemeteries throughout the country. Over 38,000 volunteers placed wreaths at 254,000 graves in Arlington National Cemetery. AMVETS Post 50 and American Legion Post 758 together hosted a local Wreaths Across America. There were not quite that many wreaths or volunteers at Wesleyan Cemetery in Sugar Grove, but there was a nice turnout considering the weather conditions. Gary Fry, Past National Commander of AMVETS and Past Commander at AMVETS Post 50 in Sugar Grove, was the Master of Ceremony for the event with state Senator Scott Hutchinson and Representative Kathy Rapp both speaking about veterans placing wreaths and those that gave their lives. Karen Rutsky, Wesleyan Cemetery caretaker, and Sugar Grove Boy Scout Troop 1135 assisted with the wreaths and the ceremony. After placing the ceremonial wreaths, family and friends of loved ones covered the cemetery with wreaths to honor, teach, and remember.
