Hill & Dale Garden Club meets in Oct., nominates officers

The Hill & Dale Garden Club meeting was held on October 23 at the Wiltsie Community Church.

Ruth welcomed everyone and led us in the Pledge to the Flag. She thanked the church for having us and, as Veteran’s Day is November 11th, remembered anyone who has served in the military. Darlene was given a gift in recognition of her service and she spoke briefly on her experience in the Army.

Marge Himber gave the devotions based on a story by Rebecca Jordan in the devotional book “Morning with Jesus. There were 22 members present and our guest speaker Sandee Geer. The minutes were approved as read.

Ruth reported the Sugar Grove garden was put to bed for the winter. Everyone did a great job and we also had the help of two women from the Warren County Jail who needed community service hours. Six mums were purchased to add some color and the Elderberry bush moved to the point. The DayLilies were moved to the back border by the parking lot. The Rudbeckia was moved and the Purple Loosestrife was removed as it is very invasive.

Ruth reported the Miles Marker directional sign is being worked on. There was a suggestion by Toby Jordan to have made of wood. Cal Eckert is also working on this.

The officers nominated for next year were announced. They are: President, Peg Stino; 1st Vice, June Natale; 2nd Vice, Cheryl Vanco; 3rd Vice, Debbie Woodin; Secretary, Muriel Redick with Donna Lundmark as back up while Muriel is away. Also nominated were: Treasurer, Carol Eckert, Historian, Linda Feather, and Directors, Eleanor Johnson, and Ruth Ann Devore. There was a motion by Darlene to accept the nominations and it was seconded by Debbie.

The programs for the following year were discussed and as we still needed a couple, there were a couple of suggestions made.

The next meeting will be the Christmas Party at 1 p.m. December 11 at Ribs & Bones. This will be a self-paid lunch. Bring a $5 gift to exchange and Bingo gifts for the Rouse Home. LeeAnn will speak on “Christmas in Amsterdam.”

Marge reported that the Woman’s Club of Warren is having a vendor show on November 16th. The vendor show is $3 and a Beef on Weck lunch is $10.

The meeting was turned over to guest speaker Sandee Geer, who demonstrated making Ferns with 1-stroke painting on gift bags.
