Warren Garden Club presents program on Crippy Critters

President Patricia Christy welcomed members to the October 17 meeting of Warren Garden Club at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Louise Dyer, program chairman, introduced the speakers for the day and fellow garden club members Priscilla Breese, Josie Gerardi, and Olivia Sechreist. The ladies, dressed as for Halloween pranksters, presented a program on Creepy Critters in the Garden. The critters were identified with a powerpoint presentation and then suggestions were given as to how to protect our gardens and containers from their invasion. Suggestions included commercial products as well as homemade concoctions.

The Garden Club Cambridge Assisted Living Committee helped residents make Halloween masks to be used when area school children visit over the upcoming holiday. The residents enjoyed making the masks and look forward to the children’s visit.

The Municipal Gardens, planted by Warren Garden Club in June, are getting their annual winter cleanup. Committee members are working on the annual autumn maintenance at the gardens including the woodland garden at Wetmore Park. Members are encouraged to “like” the new Warren Garden Club Facebook page. Ladies are encouraged to send pictures and text of their own gardens to use on facebook.

The flower show will be held on July 16. The theme has yet to be announced and at that time all club members are encouraged to participate. Decorating at the Warren County Historical Society will be November 19 at 9 a.m. The chairman of the committee will decide on the theme and the decorations to be used.

Hostess committee chairman Liz Horsley, and committee members Dookie Broussard, Kathy Knupp, and Lou Ann Lauger, was thanked for the autumn table decorations, cupcakes, and tea table.

Warren Garden Club welcomed good friend and returning member Patty Baker. Contact Sandra Ransom, membership chairman, at 723-5107 for information on membership. Warren Garden Club’s next regular meeting will be Native Flowering Species. The program will be presented by the Tom Ridge Environmental Center and will be held at 1 p.m. on November 21 at St Joseph Education Center in Warren.
