Warren Garden Club shares day with Hill & Dale Club at 2019 Garden Club Picnic
President Patricia Christy welcomed members of Warren Garden Club and members of Hill and Dale Garden Club to the annual 2019 Garden Club Picnic at the Audubon Community Nature Center, 1600 Riverside Road, Jamestown, N.Y.
Katie Finch, a Senior Naturalist from the Audubon Community Nature Center, did a presentation on identifying fall fruits, nuts and other wild plants that are edible. Examples of edible plants were passed to garden club members to examine. Ms. Finch encouraged gardeners to identify garden plants that are edible.
At the Garden Club’s regular meeting, the minutes were accepted and the treasurer’s report was placed on file for audit. It was announced that a flower show will be held in July 2020.
The Garden Club Cambridge Assisted Living Committee helped residents make owls from paper bags. The residents always enjoy the activities prepared by the committee from the Warren Garden Club.
Kristine Whitaker announced the May plant sale is scheduled for May 30, 2020. Members were reminded to save their containers and start plants after the holidays for sale in May.
Hostesses Christy and Priscilla Breese were thanked for planning the picnic luncheon.
The Municipal Gardens, planted by Warren Garden Club, will be readied for the winter season. Flower beds will be cleaned and tidied in preparation for next spring’s planting. A committee to put Woodland Garden to bed is also making plans for cleanup.
Sandra Ransom, Linda Gray, and Suzanne Barone, as well as one other club member, will form a committee to compose a slate of officers for Garden Club 2020. Vice-president and secretary will be elected in November.

Warren Garden Club’s next regular meeting will be held October 17. The program Creepy Critters in the Garden will help members understand how to get rid of unwanted garden pests. Members are encouraged to dress in black or orange and wear a witch’s hat. The program will be presented by Breese, Josie Gerardi and Olivia Sechreist at the St. Joseph Education Center, Meyer Hall.
