Photo submitted to Times Observer Trent Alexander is the first-place winner of the Warren Public Library’s Alien Creation Contest. There were 59 aliens submitted and Trent’s received the most votes from the public. The two runners up are Dustin Babcock and Aubree Edwards. Trent won a $40 Walmart gift card and the runners up each received a $25 Walmart gift card. The next library contest for children will be a Zombie Doll Contest in October. Details of that contest will be available in September.

Allegheny Outdoor Club

On Sunday, Aug. 11, Allegheny Outdoor Club will hike at the Chautauqua Audubon. It will be a 3-to-5-mile hike plus the new primitive trail. Hikers will meet at the Audubon kiosk at 2 p.m. John Young is the leader. Call (814) 730-2915 with any questions.

Vacation Bible School

The Russell community is gearing up for its summer vacation bible school. The theme this year is “God is the Guardian of our Galaxy!,” held at the Russell United Methodist Church from 6 to 8:30 p.m. August 12 to 16. Arrive early the first night to fill out registration forms. As always, children are welcome preschool through grade 5.

The event together will end Friday night, Aug. 16, with a special glow in the dark carnival for the whole family; with free hotdogs, games, cotton candy, and prizes.

National Forge Exhibits & Open House

There is a change in the date for the National Forge Exhibits & Open House at the Wilder Museum’s National Forge Exhibit Room to 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19. Refreshments will be provided. The event is free and open to the public.

Class breakfast

The Youngsville High School class of 1961 will be having breakfast at Richard’s Restaurant in Youngsville at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Chapman hellbender program

The hellbender program on Saturday, Aug. 10, at Chapman State Park has been moved from the Amphitheater to Pavilion No. 2. The program starts at 10 a.m.
