The USDA Forest Service announced Friday that the Allegheny National Forest completed routine maintenance and hazard abatement on three of five temporarily-closed boat accessible campgrounds on the Allegheny Reservoir.

Hooks Brook, Morrison, and Pine Grove campgrounds reopened on Friday.

Handsome Lake and Hopewell campgrounds remain closed. The public is asked to refrain from using these campgrounds until work is complete.

The Forest Service has been working to update maintenance and address hazards within the campgrounds and reopen them as soon as possible, according to ANF Public Affairs Officer Chris Warner.

More work needs to be done at the Handsome Lake and Hopewell locations, Warner said. No specific date for reopening was provided but will hopefully be “completed very soon.”

The temporary closures were necessary for the public’s safety. Anyone who sees hazards while camping or hiking should call the ANF Supervisors Office at (814) 723-5150.
