Hill & Dale Garden Club meets in April
The Hill & Dale Garden Club held a meeting at 12:30 p.m. April 24 at the Lottsville United Methodist Church. President Ruth Ann DeVore welcomed everyone and led the Pledge to the Flag. She also wished a Happy Birthday to all that have birthdays in April and May and birthday cards were signed for Priscilla and Marilyn Spear.
Sheryl Vanco gave the devotions. Ruth Ann and her committee of Barb Alexander, Barb Gourley, Sue Coons, and Sheryl Vanco had prepared lunch.
The minutes were read and approved. Carol reported she had checked and the Rose of Sharon bushes she was going to plant at Miles Marker and at the Sugar Grove Park Garden probably would not be a good idea. There is not enough room at the park garden and the Miles Marker site is very open and cold.
Sally Asbury reported that Wilcox Brothers was very helpful and is donating the mulch for the park and Eleanor’s garden. Also, Ron Smith, account manager for Radio Jamestown would like to interview our President Ruth Ann.
Ruth Ann passed a sign-up sheet for members to clean the Sugar Grove Park Garden Tuesday, May 14th with a rain date of May 21st.
Carol had a question if the Miles Marker could be moved to the Sugar Grove Park. George Sanders was contacted and he informed us there is at least a military burial at the site which means it can not be moved. Also, there is someone that does mow it and there is a 99-year lease which if the Garden Club ever disbands, it would go to the Historical Society.
Muriel reported Marcie Morgan had talked to the Eisenhower High School about planting something there for Arbor Day. They suggested something flowering that could be planted outside of the offices toward Fairbanks Rd. Several trees were suggested including a Miniature “Bloomerrang” Lilac, Weeping Cherry or Dogwood.
A reminder was given that Rouse Therapy is June 10 and September 9, both at 2 p.m., at the Rouse Home and both at 3 p.m. at the Rouse Suites. Silk flowers are needed for this.
Member Annie Clemet gave a program on “Worm Composting.” It was about the recycling of kitchen scraps and producing good compost for the gardens.
Hill & Dale’s Mystery Bag Auction and Plant Sale were held and there was a lot of fun and variety.
