You are invited to take “A Stroll through the Seasons” at the Wilder Museum of Warren County History’s annual Fashion Flaunt Fundraiser on Thursday, May 30, from 6-8 p.m.

For everything, there is a season, including fashions from Warren County’s history! It’s the fashion show of the year as textiles from the historical society archives will be on display featuring spring, summer, autumn, and winter fashions worn by women in Warren County’s past.

Warren County is blessed to have four distinct seasons, and local, seasonal fashions have followed suit. The crisp, fall air and Warren’s changing leaves make it the perfect season for earth tones, plaids, and knitted shawls.

Winters are historically harsh in Warren County, and the fashions reflect the need for warmth. Women wore dresses of thick material such as velvet and knits. Furs were worn as muffs, scarves, gloves, boots, and coats.

When spring would finally break, dresses made of silk, chiffon, and crepe were adorned with floral patterns, and hats with wide brims protected their face from the warming sun.

Summer’s hot temperatures dictated the need for light flowing dresses, often with lace detail.

People wore the latest, fashionable swimsuits with sleeves, belts, and knee-length bottoms to the local swimming holes and used fancy parasols for extra protection while displaying an air of class.

In addition to the fashion, the evening also includes hors d’oeuvres, fancy beverages, live music by Cathy Peterson, a slide show featuring never-before-seen photographs, and the popular Auction of the Purses in which handbags of assorted styles and sizes will be zipped and buttoned shut with donated treasures tucked inside.

Purses will be awarded to the highest bidder who will get to purchase the purse and its contents and will have the chance to win the grand prize.

Sponsors include Allegheny Cellars Winery, Anderson Cleaners, Arbor Coffee House, Bella Capelli Salon & Spa, Carol Barnickel, Paula Bogart, Crone’s Drug Store, Dairy Queen of Warren, Gaughn’s Drug Store, Holmberg Hair Salon, Sandra Howard- MaryKay Independent Consultant, Kinzua Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Kondak’s Market, Retro Station, Simple Dick’s Outlet City, Bill & Dee Tucker, Virg-Ann Flower Shop, Warren Music Conservatory, and Wendy’s Café.

This fun and the unique event serve as a fundraiser for the Wilder Museum of Warren County History. The cost is a donation which will assist in supporting the operating expenses of the Wilder Museum of Warren County History throughout the season.
