Photo submitted to Times Observer Brother Lawrence Krespan of Warren was presented with the Pennsylvania Grand Lodge Diamond Jubilee Award for 75 years of membership as a Freemason. Brother Larry joined the fraternity in the year 1944 and has maintained membership for 75 years. Brother Larry is a active member of Joseph Warren Lodge No. 726 that meets in Youngsville. Brother Ryan Knopf, District Deputy Grand Master of the 24th Masonic District, presented this award on behalf of the Pennsylvania Grand Lodge. The Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania presents service emblems to its members for maintaining continuous service in the fraternity with 75 years being the highest. Brother Krespan, 75-year recipient, center, and Brother Knopf, District Deputy Grand Master, far right, are with members of Joseph Warren Lodge No. 726.

Christian women luncheon

Village Missions Country Partners, formerly Warren Christian Women, will hold its April “Spring Season of Rebirth” luncheon on Tuesday, April 9, at the Allegheny Community Center, 42 Clark St., Warren, from noon to 2 p.m. The featured guest will be Lorri Drumm of the Times Observer, the spiritual speaker will be Kathy Holden, of Bradford, and the group will be entertained with music by the Rev. Doug, Pennhollow, of Jamestown, N.Y. Bring a $1 brown bag item for exchange. Men, women, and new guests are welcome. Call Lee Jones at 723-5952 by April 4 for reservations.

Quilters Night Out

A Quilters Night Out Quilt Guild Meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 306 Conewango Avenue, Warren. Anyone interested in quilting is welcome to attend.

First Day of Trout BBQ

The Garland Presbyterian Church’s Annual First Day of Trout Season Chicken BBQ will be held from noon until sold out on Saturday, April 13, at 3915 Route 27, Garland.

The event was not held on March 30 as was originally published in the Times Observer.

The meal of 1/2 BBQ chicken, baked beans, choice of mac salad, potato salad or baked potato, and a roll is $10. Chicken only is $6.

Bridge results

Tuesday afternoon at the Allegheny Community Center, Susan Swab came in first with Rita Mancuso and Peggy Morgan tied for second. At the Woman’s Club Thursday afternoon, Rita Mancuso and Marjorie Polito were first and second. Alice Kellogg placed first Thursday evening at the library and Rosemary Hanson was second.

A reminder that the refresher course begins on Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Woman’s Club. Walk-ins are welcome.

5th International Cooking Contest

The Appetite for the Arts’ 5th International Cooking Contest will be held Saturday, April 27, at Holy Redeemer Center and is open to professionals and amateurs. This contest allows cooks and chefs to show off their best in Ethnic Cuisine in three categories: Best Hors D’oeuvre, Best Main Dish, and Best Dessert.

Cash and awards will be given. The judges will also award the Best Dish of the Year in the professional division and the amateur. Full rules and further details are available on the ACA website contest page at www.alleghenycenterforthearts.com.

Live Well Meal Event

Want to live longer, better?

Discover healthy choices you can make to enhance your life by attending the Live Well Meal Event on Tuesday, April 30, at First Lutheran Church, 109 West Third Ave., Warren.

A light meal will be served at noon and again at 5:30 p.m. of tasty, healthy food. Attendees will learn about plant-based eating, which reverses and cures many diseases and chronic illnesses. Information will be shared about other factors that contribute to a long, healthy life. There will also be a discussion about the impact choices have on animal welfare and the environment.

Preregistration is required. Call the church office at (814) 723-6450 by April 23 and indicate which time you wish to attend. The event will be held in Neiwoehner Hall and seating is limited. The cost of the Live Well Meal Event is a $5 donation to be paid at the door. Proceeds benefit the First Lutheran 2019 Mission Trip. Doors will open 15 minutes prior to the seating time.
