City closing

The City of Warren Building Codes Department will close at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, to attend the City of Warren Redevelopment Authority meeting.

Bridge results

Results from Monday night duplicate bridge held at Warren YMCA were:

1st-Sharon Rissel and Bill Kuppinger with 25;

2nd-Laurie Curren and Sally Steele with 22.5;

3rd-Ellen Ruffolo and Jill Dart with 20.5.

Bon-Ton Lunch Group

The Bon-Ton lunch group will meet at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Bob Evans, 360 Jackson Run Road, Warren.

Seed Talk & Swap scheduled

The Warren County Master Gardeners will be hosting a free “Seed Talk & Swap” on Saturday, April 6 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Warren Public Library’s Slater Room. There will be talks on seed saving and seed starting and varieties of vegetable, flower and herb seeds available for all who attend. Participants are encouraged, but not required, to bring seeds to swap. Presentations start at 11 a.m., swap to follow. Door prizes and refreshments will be included. Usable Discards Sale

The Woman’s Club of Warren’s Usable Discards Sale will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 5, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 6. There will be a huge assortment of gently-used items. Also, homemade cookies will be for sale.

Bald Eagle Eco-Tour

Join a guided tour of Chapman State Park and the surrounding area to see eagles, eagles’ nests, and many other birds from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 27 and May 11, beginning at the Environmental Learning Center, Chapman State Park, 4790 Chapman Dam Road, Clarendon.

The cost is $10 per person.

This popular program will feature a driving tour of the surrounding area to view eagles, eagles’ nests and other birds. Binoculars and spotting scopes will be available to use at each stop. Transportation and lunch will be provided.

Registration is required by Friday, April 19. Call the park office at (814) 723-0250 to register. Limited to 10 people. Select only one date and specify which date at the time of registration.

Classes to lunch

The YHS classes of 1964 and 1965 luncheon will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at the American Legion in Youngsville. Spouses and all other classes are welcome.

Design for a Cure

Relay for Life is holding a Design for a Cure t-shirt design.

“We are including all middle school (6-8) and high school students (9-12) within the WCSD to include: WAHS, Beaty, Eisenhower, Sheffield, Youngsville, St. Joseph’s (6th), Warren County Christian School, Tidioute (Community) Charter School, cyber school and home school students,” Sonya Irons said.

“The designs should be turned in to either the school’s art teacher or in the office. For the cyber or home-schooled students, they can be emailed to relayforfamily@gmail.com or taken to the main office of the school closest to them.”

The design must be no larger than a standard piece of copy paper and both color and black and white designs are welcome. The student should include their name, grade and home school written on the back.

Certain elements must be included including the phrase “Relay for Life of Warren County, the dates of the event – June 14 and 15 – as well as the theme, Colors of Hope.

Design submissions are due April 5.

“The voting will take place online from April 9 to 20 via Facebook page Design for a Cure RFL of Warren Co PA,” Irons said.

Sidewalk Chalk

Family Services of Warren County is set to hold its second Sidewalk Chalk Competition on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The contest is open to individuals, families, children, and artists ages 14 and over.

Registered artists will pay $10 per sidewalk square. Event categories will be judged and prizes will be awarded. The event will be held on the corner of Liberty St and 3rd Ave.

All proceeds will go to benefit the work of Family Services of Warren County.

Family Services of Warren County is a nonprofit behavioral health company meeting the behavioral health needs of Warren County.

YHS Science Symposium

The annual Science Symposium will be held at Youngsville High school on Friday, March 22. It will be held in the gymnasium and is free and open to the public. The freshmen Environmental classes, the Wildlife Ecology class, and the Physics classes will be featured and will be presenting their projects.

There will also be a variety of outside environmental groups participating including the PA Game Commission and the Warren County Conservation District. The Eagles Eye Club will also be holding their Mad Lab Cafe, where they will be selling a variety of “Scientific” food and drinks.
