Birds of Prey

Live owls and hawks will be the highlight of Birds of Prey Day at Audubon Community Nature Center (ACNC) on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Mark Baker (pictured), a licensed raptor (bird of prey) rehabilitator at Eagle Dream Rehabilitation Center, will be at the Nature Center with several of his birds that are unable to be released back into the wild. You can visit with Baker and his birds throughout the day or sit in on one of his presentations at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Birds of prey, which are also known as raptors, are perfectly designed for aerial hunting.

Daytime flyers are hawks, eagles, falcons, and vultures, while owls fly at night.

You can meet some of these incredible creatures and learn about their lives in the sky through hands-on activities. Find out what owls eat by dissecting an owl pellet, make birds of prey crafts to take home, and get a behind-the-scenes tour of Audubon’s non-releasable Bald Eagle.

Admission is $8, $6 for Nature Center members and children 3-15, and free for children 2 and under. Reservations are not required. By completing a minimum of four activities, Scouts and other children can earn a patch for an additional $3.

Audubon Community Nature Center is at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown, N.Y., and Warren, and online at auduboncnc.org.

Starting at $3.50/week.
