Signups for Salvation Army programs soon

Winter is coming.

The Salvation Army has scheduled signups for its Bundle Up and Christmas programs. The two programs will have signups for anyone interested From Sept. 24 to 28 and Oct. 1 to 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 311 Beech Street.

The Bundle Up programs is a voucher program, which allows those who are eligible and enrolled to get winter clothing. Enrollees will be given vouchers toward the purchase of winter outerwear to be purchased at a local department store. The program is open to children up to age 18 and adults age 62 and over.

The Christmas program provides toys to families with children age 12 and under and food baskets to anyone who signs up. The Christmas program, like the Bundle Up program, said Captain Keith Jache, seeks to ease the weather and holiday-related burdens of local children and senior citizens most of all.

Last year, said Jache, around 70 people signed up for the Bundle Up program. The Christmas program, said Jache, continues to be popular, with around 200 families served each year. Anyone who wants to sign up for either program, said Jache, should come to the Salvation Army to do so during the sign up times and dates with photo ID, proof of residency, all income information for the household, expenses, proof of custody, a wish list for children in the case of families signing up for the Christmas toy program, and children’s shoe and clothing sizes.

For more information on either program, contact the Salvation Army by calling (814) 723-8950.
