Garami speaks to Delta Kappa Gammas
Photo submitted to Times Observer Here are Monica Garami (left), guest speaker at the April Delta Kappa Gamma meeting and Mary Schorman (right), a retired teacher and long-time member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Both are advocates for women and education.
At the April meeting of the Alpha Mu Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, the members were treated to a talk given by the guest speaker Monika Garami.
Monika was born and raised in Hungary and immigrated to the United States when she was 18 years old. Monika, as a youth and young adult, had a strong desire to learn. Her aunt, who lived in California, sent her a one-way airplane ticket to the United States. Here, Monika learned the English language and began her college education, something that would not have been possible in her village in Hungary. She has a love of learning, and one of her passions and hobbies is photography.
Her work has been shown at the Crary Museum, the Historical Society, and the Wilder Museum among others.
Monika is an advocate for women and education, and she continues to pursue her education attaining several degrees.
The DKG women promote professional and personal growth of women educators, so to hear Monika speak on the subject of women and education was uplifting and encouraging.
