Put on your dancing shoes and step out for an Old Tyme Country Barn Dance. Free Books For Kids Town hosts a barn dance on Saturday, March 3, at the Woman’s Club of Warren from 3 to 5 p.m.

Joseph Kwiakowski will call out the dance steps as a live band headed up by Timm Reasbeck and friends plays a variety of music. It is an informal, fun event and no dance experience is necessary.

The Old Tyme Country Barn Dance is entertainment for all ages. Come enjoy free refreshments, basket raffle, and children’s book sale. The Cat in the Hat will make an appearance in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday. The event is free for children and adults are asked to make a donation to the organization.

Free Books For Kids Town is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting literacy in Warren County. The organization is the brainchild of Ruby Wiles, who began collecting and donating children’s books around the community.

Since 2011, Free Books for Kids Town has donated more than $100,000 in books to Warren County children. You may have seen baskets of free books at local shops and even have taken one to enjoy with your children.

The love of reading is influenced by choice and ownership. Research shows that children who select books that match their interest and own the book become better readers and this philosophy is embraced and promotes by Free Books For Kids Town. The children get wildly excited when choosing a book to read and keep.

Free Books For Kids Town, through its dedicated board of directors and cadre of volunteers, offers many opportunities for kids to discover the love of reading. You or your child may have participated in one of our many programs, such as “Read, Create, and Learn” (in which kids paint and color their way through a story book), “Introducing Children to the World of Books” (a program to donate books to our elementary schools), and “Classroom Read and Keep” (volunteers read to children and children get to choose a book to take home).

This spring, Free Books For Kids Town will begin a new project, “Coins for Kids.” You can pick up a small coin box at many local businesses. Place your spare change in the box and return it to Free Books For Kids Town. The money will be used to provide books and literacy programs in Warren County.
