Firefly program to continue at YMCA

Firefly at the YMCA will sail forward.

The inclusive program, which serves county residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is free for everyone who wants to be active to use YMCA facilities to do so, said Marketing and Grant Coordinator Kim Slocum. Thanks to a $35,000 grant from the Edith L. Trees Charitable Trust, the program will be able to run through 2018.

“We have individuals with all stages of abilities,” Slocum said. “We will install into the program what is needed so that each participant can participate at a level they are comfortable with. We feel blessed to have received another grant to support this group of underserved community members.”

Anyone interested in participating the Firefly program should fill out a Firefly registration form at the front desk of the Warren YMCA, 212 Lexington Ave. in Warren. The program is offered on Mondays and Wednesdays during the day or Wednesdays and Fridays during the evening. For more information on Firefly, contact Kim Slocum at (814) 726-0110 or email kim@warrenymca.org.
