Warren-Forest EOC awarded housing grant

An infusion of state funds will result in expanded housing options in Warren County.

State Senator Scott Hutchinson announced on Wednesday that the Warren-Forest Economic Opportunities Council has been awarded a $100,000 state grant “for a housing improvement project.”

A statement from Hutchinson’s office said that the funds will come from the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) fund – a combination of funds from multiple state funding streams.

The funding will be used here to, according to Hutchinson’s statement, “for the construction of a two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment.

“This ADA (American with Disabilities Act) accessible, single-family unit will be made available as a long-term rental unit to a low-income individual or family with a documented mental health diagnosis.”

According to a list of projects on the website of the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency website, which oversees the PHARE program, indicates that the proposal name for the project is “306 Beach Street Permanent Housing.”

“PHARE is an excellent program that invests state resources from the Realty Transfer Tax and the Marcellus Shale impact fee created by Act 13 of 2012 to improve the availability of affordable housing in our communities,” Hutchinson said. “These grants, such as the one provided to the Warren-Forest Counties Economic Opportunities Council, help a number of at-risk individuals and families secure and keep housing.”
