Recently, Career Center Students in Mrs. Cummings and Mrs. Hornick’s first period classes used their computer skills to test the Community Foundation’s online scholarship application. “We were happy to have our students help the Community Foundation as it prepares to launch an online scholarship application,” commented Mrs. Cummings, the Career Center’s Marketing Instructor. “Going from a paper-based application to online is a big step.”

“I really appreciate the effort the students made to test our online application,” noted John Lasher, Executive Director of the Community Foundation of Warren County. “Since the foundation manages over 20 different scholarship programs, there are a lot of different pieces of information to gather in the application.”

Students signed on to the test version of the application and entered personal information. “The website generates a temporary password and e-mails it to the student,” Lasher noted. The student uses the password to gain entry to the site and complete the application. Once they begin, students will be able to leave the application and come back to complete it at a later date.”

Applicants will be required to scan several documents and enter them into the system. These documents include letters of recommendation, and parents’ tax returns. “One of the key ideas behind the online application is eliminating paper from the process,” according to Lasher. “In the long run this simplifies things for the students and their parents. Student transcripts, and renewal information will all be accepted online as well. We will communicate by e-mail rather than sending letters with renewal instructions. That also streamlines the process for us at the Foundation.”

The online application is available starting February 13, 2017. The deadline for submitting applications is April 7, 2017.

The Foundation plans to notify students about scholarship awards before graduation. Scholarship payments are sent to schools in July. For more information about the Community Foundation’s scholarship program visit the Foundation website: cfowc.org.
