YMCA awarded $57K technology grant

The Warren County YMCA was awarded a near $60,000 READY SET GOogle grant by the Dart Foundation, YMCA grant writer Kimberly Slocum announced.

This investment of $57,987.77 from the Dart Foundation will provide the Warren County YMCA in rural Pennsylvania with a robust network infrastructure that will help deliver Internet access as a tool in education, she said, by providing programs, systems and information that would be easily available to every child and adult at every age and stage of life.

READY SET GOogle will provide constant programming to YMCA preschool and school-age children; seniors with access to health resources and social communication with family and friends; staff with online training to meet state and local standards in education and resources; adults with access to job searches, and timelines for community food banks.

The program will provide employees a more reliable way to communicate with parents and staff, while keeping them in touch with their children and their activities at the Y.

It will enhance health and fitness programs by being able to access current information, tools and resources related to the needs of individuals.

Along with the contribution from the Dart Foundation, Northwest Bank donated and installed eight refurbished computers to support the computer center area in the lobby.

“Without the help of the Dart Foundation it would be very difficult for us to keep up with the technology that we need to be able to do what we do for this community,” said Warren County YMCA CEO Thad Turner.

Installation of the new system will begin in January of 2017 and is estimated to take about 30 days.
