Penn Soil Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Council Executive Director Wes Ramsey announced that Penn Soil RC&D has received a $1,500 donation in support of the Warren County Winterfest event scheduled for January 20-22, at Chapman State Park.

Ramsey, along with fellow Winterfest Executive Committee members Walter and Edwin Atwood were invited to attend a meeting at the Clarendon Veterans Lounge recently to receive a ceremonial check from Thomas Eaton Jr, Post Commander. “On behalf of the Winterfest Event and Penn Soil RC&D Council, we would like to thank the members of the Clarendon Veterans Lounge for their generous support of the Winterfest Event. The Event Planning Committee is hard at work getting things ready for the 2017 Warren County Winterfest and your sponsorship means a lot to us”, said Ramsey. Post Commander Thomas Eaton, Jr. stated that, “The Winterfest is important for our whole region and we are happy to be a sponsor of this great family event.”

Winterfest committee member Ed Atwood said preparations for the Winterfest event are underway at the park and things will look a little different from previous years as most of the events will be held on the beach side of the lake this year. Due to the expected renovations to Chapman Dam and areas affected by upcoming construction plans, most all of the scheduled events will be originating on the East side (the beach side) of the lake this year.

Since the lake renovations at Chapman Dam have been postponed until sometime in the coming year, the popular polar bear plunge will still take place at the beach area as in the past, however, there will be some changes in locations of certain other events in order to accommodate all the events on the beach side of the lake. The sled dog racing event has been moved from the beach area to the Campground area. The starting line for the sled dog events will now be near the campground overflow parking lot. The geocaching event has been moved from the campground Yurt to Pavilion Number 2, while the Winterfest Main Event tent which houses hot food, commercial and craft vendors, as well as the beloved Soup Kitchen has been moved from the bottom of the sledding hill across the lake to Pavilion 4, the largest picnic pavilion in the park.
