2016 Senior Expo is Oct. 28 at TAWC

The Warren/Forest Eldercare Council has announced that the 2016 Senior Expo, slated for Friday, Oct. 28, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will be at the Transit Authority of Warren County (TAWC) building at 42 Clark Street, which is also the home of the Allegheny Community Center (ACC).

This venue provides space for enjoying lunch along the Allegheny River as well as viewing the other amenities that TAWC and the Allegheny Community Center have to offer. Plenty of parking will be provided along Clark Street, the TOPS parking lot and in the parking garage. A TAWC shuttle bus will be running to and from the parking garage front entrance to the Expo. Additionally, transportation to the Expo is available by calling TAWC at 723-1874.

The Expo will provide information and referral assistance to residents from a wide array of vendors, as well as flu shots, pneumonia vaccines, blood pressure testing, and Medicare D comparisons throughout the first floor of TAWC garage and the Allegheny Community Center on the second floor. A full lunch will be provided in the ACC dining room from 10 a.m. to noon, with choice of a hot dog or sloppy joe, chips, cookies and coffee compliments of TOPS grocery store.

Susan Himes, Eldercare Council Chair, said, “The Eldercare Senior Expo is an excellent resource for residents of our community to talk to the professionals working with senior issues, imparting information and health screenings for them to ‘live and age well.’ There will be a staff member from Experience, Inc., our local Area Agency on Aging, present to assist people with their Medicare D comparison in the ACC computer lab on the 2nd floor. We typically have 70 or more vendors participating, so there’s sure to be some new information offered to help people. We are holding a Volunteer Fair again this year because it was popular last year. Vendors will have a ‘Volunteers Needed’ sign at their table if they are recruiting volunteers. This is a perfect way to talk face-to-face with agency staff about a volunteer position that they may have been considering.”

The Expo is provided as a service to the older and/or disabled residents of the area. It attracts several hundred people and offers the opportunity to learn about services, activities, and information that they may need or in which they may be interested. The Senior Expo has proved to be a productive resource for the elderly and disabled members of our community. This event gives them the opportunity to come out and interact with the people and agencies that are here to meet their needs.

“This is the only day of the year that all of these wonderful resources are in one place,” said Lisa To, the Director of Hospice of Warren County. “Seniors can talk face-to-face with experts and obtain information about so many products and services needed or useful in their lives. It’s also a place to talk face-to-face with some political figures, both state and local. We have some Commissioner candidates attending this yr. Plus, It’s a very social event tons of people attend. It’s THE place to be in Warren on October 28th.”

Charli Brunst, Director of Case Management & Swing Bed Program at Warren General Hospital added, “I think the expo is a great opportunity for the community to come and see all of the great services they are able to receive from facilities located right here in the Warren area.”

“A senior expo is a great way to find out information about products and services offered in your local area. This even is designed to connect you to resources that are meant to help Seniors in the community and offer a one-stop shop where they can have access to topics of senior interests.” Commented Kerstin K. Wyman, Marketing Director, The Rouse Estate.
