Wild Wind

Albert Einstein was quoted as saying “Creativity is contagious; pass it on.” And that is exactly what the annual Wild Wind Folk Art & Craft Festival plans to do Sept. 12-13 at the Warren County Fairgrounds, Rt. 6, Pittsfield, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

The festival will celebrate its 36th year, and organizers and craftsmen alike remain exuberant about offering the artisan’s creations to those who appreciate handcrafted items, which includes inspired folk art, traditional crafts, fine art, handmade collectibles and everything in between. Metal sculpturist Dave Anders, of the Colonial Wagon Wheel will again attend. His family’s motto for folk art in particular is “Making do with whatever you have to make people smile.” And, following in his father’s footsteps, he does just that.

The show will be as big as ever with all of the barns filled to capacity, and those under tents will be spread across the grassy areas. Joining the festival will be several newcomers which is always a treat for yearly festival-goers and those new to the event.

One of these newcomers is Loren Stallsmith of Hadley, PA, who will demonstrate the age old art of “braintanning.” He and his wife own and operate a small business which creates leather goods that are, in today’s world, unique. The tanning method has a long history and he will be on hand to explain this historic process.

It is always a good idea to bring your appetite because you will definitely need it with a large variety of food offerings from which to choose.

The shady picnic area will be the place to gather to relax, listen to music and enjoy your lunch or snack. Music will be provided by Dan Hunt’s group,”Highway Radio”on Saturday and the Old Dawg Bluegrass Band on Sunday. Dancing is encouraged.

Creativity begins in the heart of the soul. The Wild Wind Festival has a big enough heart to share the creativity of many with all of you once again, on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 12-13. There will be plenty of free parking and handicapped parking areas.

Admission fees are $6 for adults, $4 seniors (65) and children 12 and younger free. If you attend on Saturday, you may return on Sunday free of charge.
