Several Boy Scouts have earned Eagle rank

An Eagle Court of Honor was held in 2014 for several local Scouts who have earned the rank of Eagle.

Dominic McClellan, son of Ruth Shellhouse McClellan of Garland and Brian McClellan of Erie, graduated from Youngsville High School in June of 2013. He enlisted in the US Army Reserves. He is currently working at Superior Tire. While in high school Dominic was active in the marching band and traveled to Ireland with the band.

Dominic’s Eagle Scout project was completed for the Warren County Historical Society at the Wilder Museum in Irvine. Dominic, with the help of his troop, family and friends, renovated the pavilion in the parking lot of the museum. He ensured that the pavilion would be safe for community use by replacing supports and headers. He scraped, primed and painted the wood to restore it to its original color.

As a member of Troop 22, Dominic attended summer camp at Camp Olmsted, participated in spring and fall camporees, Klondike Derbies, First Aid Meets, and service projects. Twice Dominic traveled with the troop to Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine. He also supported younger scouts by serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster on a fifty mile hike / canoe outing.

Outside of scouting Dominic enjoys his Jeep, hunting, and camping. Dominic was a member of the Youngsville High School Marching Eagles band. He performed in many competitions and shows.

Jeremy Niemeyer is a senior at Youngsville Area Middle / Senior High School this fall. He is the son of Cindy and Duane Niemeyer of Youngsville.

Jeremy has been active in scouting since grade school and he earned Cub Scout’s highest honor, the “Arrow of Light “as a member of Pack 30 Jeremy served the troop as Quartermaster.

Jeremy has participated in many troop activities including: Community Service Projects food drives, Dunns Eddy and cemetery clean ups. Spring / Fall Camporees, Troop Campouts, Maine Trip, Klondike Derbies, First Aid Meets, and Summer Camps at Camp Olmsted, and a 50 Miler. Jeremy was an Ordeal Member of the Gyantwachia Lodge 255, Order of the Arrow. Jeremy earned his “God and Life “award.

Jeremy’s Eagle project was completed at the Irvine Presbyterian Church. He utilized the discarded interior wall stones that were rescued during the church’s renovation and created a beautiful wall and steps adjacent to the education building. It not only enhances the area, but preserved the stones from the historic church.

Jeremy earned his Varsity Letter on the 2013 YHS Football Team. He participated on the Youngsville High School Trap Team, which is part of the Warren County Trap League.

Jeremy is a fireman with the Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoys the outdoors and is an avid hunter. Jeremy works as a Dietary Aide at the Rouse Suites in Youngsville. He also works as a farm hand for Ken Roberts.

Jason Gustafson is a senior at Youngsville Area Middle / Senior High School this fall. He is the son of Debbie and Jeff Gustafson of Irvine.

Jason has been active in scouting since grade school and he earned Cub Scout’s highest honor the “Arrow of Light” while a member of Pack 30. Jason has earned all four of the religious awards in scouting. “God and Me” (1st to 3rd Grade) “God and Church” (4th to 5th Grade) “God and Family “(6th to 8th Grade) and”God and Life” (9th to 12th Grade) these awards span the entire scouting program and it is rare for a scout to receive all four. Congratulations Jason!

Jason completed his Eagle Scout project at the Irvine Presbyterian Church. He replaced the concrete sidewalk in front of the church and added a concrete landing for greeting in front of the church. In addition he installed a French drain that carries away water from the church’s new heating system. Jason graded the front yard and planted grass seed to enhance the overall appearance of the area.

Jason has participated in many activities with Troop 22 and he and his family have hosted canoe trips, picnics, and camp outs on the river. Jason served his troop as Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. He was an Ordeal member of the Gyantwachia Lodge 255, Order of the Arrow.

Outside of scouting Jason has become an accomplished Trap Shooter. He has participated in the Warren County Trap league shooting for the YHS team. He earned his varsity letter in trap shooting. He went to the State Trap meet in Elysburg in both 2013 and 2014. In 2013 his team placed second in SCTP and third in AIM. He traveled to Illinois in 2013 to participate in the Nationals. His team finished ninth overall. In 2014 Jason placed second overall in the Warren County League. Jason’s ultimate high score is a perfect 100 straight at the Cardinal Shooting Complex in Ohio in 2014.

Jason is a member of the Irvine Presbyterian Church. He volunteers as a fireman with Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department.

Travis Wilcox is a senior at Warren Area High School in the fall of 2014. Travis is the son of Tim and Karen Wilcox and the brother of Garrett Wilcox.

Travis has been active in Troop 22 since 2008. He was a Brotherhood member of Gyantwachia Lodge 255, Order of the Arrow. He served his troop in the positions of Lodge representative and Bugler. Travis has participated in many camp outs, summer camps, troop trips and merit badge sessions. He has volunteered at Camp Olmsted as a Youth Corp Volunteer in 2012 and 2013 and as a Staff Volunteer in 2014. Travis earned his “God and Life” religious award. Travis attended the 2013 Jamboree held at the new Bechtel Scout Reserve.

Travis completed his Eagle Scout project at Washington Park overlooking the city of Warren. He cleaned up the park, reconditioned the cement picnic tables and placed gravel under them. He renovated the driving circle with new railroad ties. He place new benches at the overlook with cement pads under them for easy maintenance and security. His project enhanced the area and allowed for visitors to use the picnic area and enjoy the view from the new benches.

Outside of scouting Travis has participated in the Warren County Summer Music School in both 2012 and 2013 as an Intern. In 2010 he attended the PA State Police Academy Camp Cadet, Meadville, PA and he received the Kiwanis Citizenship Award. In 2013 Travis received a full scholarship from the Youngsville American Legion to participate in the PA State Police Academy in York, PA. He is a recipient of the Beaty Gold B Award for academic excellence in 2011 and the WHS Golden Dragon Award for outstanding community service in 2013. Travis was a member of the YHS Marching Eagles from 2009 to 2010 and the Warren Dragon Marching Band from 2010 to 2014 in the percussion line. Travis has participated in the Warren County Trap League for three years on the Warren Blue Trap Team and earned his Varsity letter in 2014. In 2013 Travis joined the Civil Air Patrol. Travis also has participated in the WHS Snow Sports Club in 2012 and 2013. He was a member of the 2014 Cross Country Running Team and was active in Free Enterprise Week. In addition he has received many awards for his art work and he was recognized by the Department of Education and his work was displayed in Harrisburg, PA. Travis organized his own “pay it forward” and it resulted in a donation of $2500.00 for Brady’s expenses related to his health needs. Travis is a member of the Irvine Presbyterian Church.

Bryce A Sherrard is a senior at Youngsville Middle Senior High School in the fall of 2014. He is the son of Bob and Tammie Sherrard and brother to Mallory.

Bryce earned his “Arrow of Light” in Pack 30, which is Cub Scout’s highest honor. He is currently serving his troop as Senior Patrol Leader. He has been active in many scouting activities including Klondike Derbies, summer camp at Camp Olmsted, Maine trips, 50 Miler, and many camp outs and service projects. Bryce has been a role model for younger scouts and takes time to encourage them on their trail to Eagle. Bryce earned his “God and Me” and his “God and Church” award through scouting.

Bryce’s Eagle Scout project was completed at the Irvine Presbyterian Church. He built a deck adjacent to the outdoor worship area for musicians. The deck and picnic tables under the pavilion were stained to match the worship area benches. He enhanced the area by adding stones and steps.

Bryce is a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church. He has been active in the church youth group. Bryce is known for his ability to sing and he has performed for his school, his church and his troop on several occasions.

Bryce is an avid baseball enthusiast. He earned his Varsity letter in baseball at Youngsville High School. He spent many years playing baseball in the Warren County Youth Baseball Softball Association. He was also selected to play on the All Star Team. Bryce also plays for the Youngsville American Legion baseball team. Bryce was a nominee for player of the week by the Erie Times twice in 2014 for his outstanding performance on his high school team. In addition to sports Bryce is a member of the Erie County Tractor Pulling Association and he has won several awards in competitions. Bryce is active as a volunteer in his community and has assisted with projects at the Warren County Fair. This includes several summers of assisting his Uncle in the Draft Horse Association.

Bryce enjoys being in the outdoors camping, hunting, fishing and four wheeling. Bryce is working at ARRO Tool & Die this summer.

Jeremy Lyon is a 2014 graduate of Youngsville Middle Senior High School. He was awarded his Eagle badge prior to leaving for the United States Marine Corp. Jeremy is currently in basic training at Parris Island. Today we honor Jeremy on his accomplishments and thank him for his service to our country.

Jeremy is the son of Tim Lyon Sr. and Delores and Michael Stec. He is brother to Tim Jr and Stacey.

Jeremy’s Eagle Scout project was completed for the Warren County Historical Society at the Wilder Museum in Irvine PA. Jeremy with the help of his troop, family and friends completed landscaping around the museum. He removed overgrown brush, weeds and leaves. He painted a door and did minor repairs to window trim.

Outside of scouting Jeremy has been an avid wrestler. His career started at a very young age and continued through high school. Jeremy earned his Varsity letter in wrestling. He was selected as the Region 3 All Star 2nd Team during the 2014 season. Jeremy wrestled at 170 pounds. Jeremy was a member of the Youngsville High School Marching Eagles band. He performed in many competitions and shows.

Jeremy loves trucks and he takes great pride in his Dodge pickup. Jeremy is an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time in the woods with his friends hunting, camping and hiking.
