PA Gaming Revenue Climbs to Almost $597M in October as Market Demand Grows

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) recently posted its gaming revenue for the month of October, where it generated almost $597 million in revenue. The PGCB explained that the revenue, which grew by 20.2% year-over-year (YoY), was generated from all forms of gaming, including iGaming, sports betting, video gaming terminals, retail slot machines, and table games.

Gaming is becoming a huge market in Pennsylvania, and this report supports the argument that the state’s gaming market is one of the biggest, not just in its region but in the entire United States.

The report also showed that iGaming still remains a huge contributor to the monthly revenue. However, the numbers do not include offshore iGaming activity. Many players still use offshore platforms because they provide a different online experience, especially for classic games like poker. Since these platforms are not regulated by the state, their activity is not counted in the official revenue reports. If it were included, the state’s total gaming revenue would likely be higher.

In this sector, players usually learn about gaming options through community discussions and comparison lists for ranking. For example, offshore poker site rankings help poker players see how platforms compare in things like traffic, game types, bonuses, and overall offerings. This is one reason some players continue to look outside the regulated market.

Nonetheless, most Pennsylvanians still play in the regulated market. From the PGCB report, online casino operators recorded a total revenue of $251.1 million in October. This surpasses the previous record of $238 million, which was set in March this year, and translates to a 32.8% increase YoY.

Out of the $251.1 million, $190.8 million came from online slots, while internet table games and online poker contributed $57.7 million and $2.5 million, respectively. These three categories saw their revenue increase ahead of the previous year by 35.5%, 25.7% and 13.6% respectively.

There was also an increase in the sports betting sector as revenue doubled YoY to $60.7 million, with $56.2 million coming from online sports betting platforms, while $4.5 million came from retail sportsbooks across the state.

Residents also spent $968.5 million on sports bets, beating the previous record of $935.5 million, which was set in November 2024. Pennsylvania also had a monthly sports betting hold of 6.27%

Although the state’s iGaming sector continues to expand, it hasn’t affected the revenue from land-based casinos, as their revenue went up 1.4% YoY to $203.5 million. The report shows that these commercial casinos still remain a key source of revenue for the state, and it could remain that way for a long while.

In terms of gaming taxes, operators paid a total of $252.3 million to the state government. Breaking the taxes down by game type, online casino operators paid $112.7 million, land-based slots paid $102.8 million, while sports betting and retail table games paid $21.8 million and $12.8 million, respectively.

Currently, there’s a bill, SB 756, that is looking to tax skill game machines by up to 35%, since they seem to be everywhere in the state. If this goes through, the state could see even higher taxes generated monthly.

Speaking on the report, Doug Harbach, director of communications for the PGCB, said that the state continues to see growth in its iGaming sector every month, and it hopes that it continues, as the increase in taxes can be used to help reduce the burden of property taxes for its citizens.
