Northwest cuts jobs, closes offices

Northwest Bank downsized its operations this week.

“After careful consideration, we made the difficult decision to streamline a small percentage of our overall workforce,” Executive Vice President of Communications and Regional Marketing Shawn Walker said Friday afternoon. “As a result, some positions across the bank were discontinued, including the closure of eight retail offices across our footprint.”

None of those closed retail offices are in Warren County, he said.

Company officials did not detail how many jobs were cut.

“As companies evolve, as part of normal practice, it’s common to step back and analyze operations to ensure alignment with their strategic direction, the current economic environment, and overall goals of the organization,” he said. “At times, much like we’ve seen recently in announcements from Amazon, Google and others, companies need to adjust to become more efficient and improve performance. This was a difficult but necessary step for the bank.”

The changes were not centralized to particular areas nor departments, according to Walker.

“We analyzed our entire operation – all regions and departments of the bank,” he said. “The impact is not concentrated in any single market or department, with displacements spread across all of our operating areas – Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, and Indiana.”

He said displaced employees will have the opportunity to apply for other open positions within the company.

“Any decision that impacts Northwest team members or the communities we serve is never taken lightly,” he said. “This decision received significant scrutiny and was made after careful consideration, taking into account many factors.”

Starting at $4.00/week.
