NEW ORLEANS — St. Bonaventure redshirt senior Jalen Adaway has been selected to the Great Clips Slam Dunk Championship roster for the 33rd annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships at Xavier University of Louisiana’s Convocation Center in New Orleans today.

Adaway is one of eight players selected for the event that will air live on ESPN at 9 p.m. Eastern.

A First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection from Logansport, Indiana, Adaway enjoyed his finest collegiate season this year with the Bonnies. He led the team in scoring at 15.3 points per game, scoring in double figures in 39 of the last 43 contests dating to last season. He shot nearly 49% from the floor during the regular season, over 82% at the foul line and hauled in nearly six rebounds per game while starting all 32 contests played and averaging nearly 38 minutes per contest, good for seventh nationally among all Division I players. He also earned All-District honors from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.

Known as “Flight 33” to Bonnies fans for his prolific leaping ability, Adaway has thrilled followers of the program the past two seasons with many rim-rattling dunks. He finished the season Tuesday night with a jaw-dropping one-handed slam in the NIT semifinals at Madison Square Garden.

Intersport, producers of the event, invites 24 of the nation’s elite men’s and women’s college basketball players to compete for slam dunk and 3-point shooting bragging rights. The night features the Great Clips Slam Dunk Championship, the TaxAct Men’s 3-Point Championship, the Rocket Mortgage Women’s 3-Point Shooting Championship and the Applebee’s Team Shootout. The winners of the TaxAct Men’s and Rocket Mortgage Women’s 3-Point Championships will then compete in the State Farm Battle of the Champions.

Since the event’s inception, several of the top players in college basketball have competed in the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships before moving on to the professional ranks, including Gary Payton, Steve Nash, Jason Terry, Kyle Korver, Bobby Hurley, Michael Finley, Allan Houston, Wesley Matthews, Denzel Valentine, Yogi Ferrell, Cappie Pondexter, Katie Gearlds, Kristi Toliver, Odyssey Sims, Tiffany Hayes, Tiffany Mitchell and Ariel Atkins.
